Dílna Mikulov - Art symposium

The 17th year of the Mikulov Art Symposium “dílna“ ´10 was approved by Mikulov Town Hall headed by mayor Rostislav Koštial.

“Dílna” took place between July 17 and August 14, 2010 at the Mikulov Chateau, with major assistance by the employees of the Regional Museum in Mikulov.
The 17th year of the Mikulov Art Symposium was inaugurated on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 5 PM at the Sala Terrena, a historic hall with a terrace in the southern wing of the Mikulov Chateau. The event was hosted by the head of the Association for the Development of the Mikulov Art Symposium “dílna”, Marcela Effenbergerová, who introduced the event’s participants, organizers and partners. Later, the guarantor and a member of the MAS’ advisory board, Libor Lípa, briefly summed up the purpose and the system of the symposium, and welcomed the curator, Milena Dopitová. Together, they introduced the individual participating artists who greeted the audience. All the invited artists personally attended the opening ceremony. A personal welcome was also delivered by Mikulov mayor Rostislav Koštial and the director of the Regional Museum in Mikulov, Petr Kubín. The event also featured short video portraits of the participating artists, and a performance by the Brno VJing artist known as Akkamiau.

As part of the Symposium’s programme, the organizers together with the Horní konírna Art Shop and Gallery prepared a rich programme for the public. On Saturday, August 8, a concert was to take place by the bands Groundkeeper, Lili Marlene, Petr Karas, Tři Lotři and Oldřich Veselý  E-band. Unfortunately, the programme had to be stopped due to poor weather conditions. Another public event took place at programme had to be stopped due to poor weather conditions. Another public event – the presentation of the works of the 17th year of the Mikulov Peča Kuča – took place in the evening of Wednesday, August 11, at the Horní Konírna gallery which was full to the brim.

The final exhibition of the 17th Mikulov Art Symposium “dílna“ took place on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 5 PM at the Upper Courtyard of the Mikulov Chateau. The opening address was delivered by Mikulov mayor Rostislav Koštial, the director of the Regional Museum in Mikulov, Petr Kubín, and the guarantor and a member of the MAS’ advisory board, Libor Lípa. Then the curator of the 17th Mikulov Art Symposium, Milena Dopitová, presented all the participating artists who expressed their gratitude for being able to stay in Mikulov. The only foreign participant, Sean Micka, unfortunately had to leave the symposium earlier due to serious family reasons. His spot was taken over by Kamila Rýparová who took part in the symposium as a guest, and whose works were included in the art collection of the town of Mikulov. The ceremony was hosted by Marcela Effenbergerová who thanked all the partners and supporters of the event as well as all the employees of the Regional Museum in Mikulov who helped during the whole event. Finally, the exhibition was inaugurated in the chateau halls that should in the future host a permanent exhibition of the Mikulov Art Symposium “dílna”. The ceremony concluded with a great concert by Phil Shoenfelt & the Southern Cross and a joint musical performance by the participating artists who performed several tunes under the supervision of Petr Krkavec.

The curator of the 17th annual symposium was the artist Milena Dopitová who, together with the other authors, set the underlying theme: “Let’s not talk about art, let’s talk about something else – about a perfume” which links and permeates the works by the individual authors. The final list of participating artists was a combination of her curatorial choice and the winning nominations submitted by the Expert Council of the MAS “dílna”.
