Dílna Mikulov - Art symposium

Facts

The 19th Mikulov Art Symposium "dílna" took place between July 14 and August 11, 2012, as approved by the Mikulov town council headed by Mayor Rastislav Koštial. The event is, among other things, the source of a large collection of contemporary

art owned by the town and deposited at the Mikulov chateau.

The 19th year of "dílna" concluded a two-year concept adopted by the curators of the symposium in this and the previous year: to get together two groups of artists, one

consisting of artists of the young, emerging generation representing the latest ideas and approaches to contemporary art, the other of established authors of the oldest

generation whose work is widely known to the public.

Theoretician and respected art historian Martin Dostál was chosen as the curator of the 19th year of the symposium.

"dílna" was officially launched on Saturday, July 14, 2012 in the in the Sala Terrena hall of the chateau. Representatives of the organizers – the town of Mikulov and the Regional Museum in Mikulov – welcomed the participating artists who introduced

themselves to the guests personally in the form of brief visual presentations accompanied by their remarks. The academic ensemble KAZ band helped set the mood of the night.

The concluding exhibition of artifacts created during the symposium, and the final party was held on August 11, 2012 at the Mikulov chateau.

The curator, Martin Dostál, presented the participating authors at the exhibition’s opening, and the audience was also addressed by the museum’s director, Petr Kubín, the mayor of Mikulov, Rostislav Koštial, as well as by Libor Lípa, the symposium’s art director and member of its advisory board. The event was hosted by Marcela Effenbergerová, the head of the organizing Association for the Development of MAS "dílna".

The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by several events including the screening of a documentary film about MAS "dílna" 2012 with interviews with the artists (a film by DISK Systems studio) and a concert of several bands, including

Slovak jazz musicians Peter Lipa with his band, Ground Keepr, Kaz and others… (Every Artists a Musician).

The exhibition entitled “A Great Year” was placed inside the castle in an area designated to become a permanent exposition of the MAS "dílna". During the opening, curator Martin Dostál held a commented viewing of the exhibition which was

very much appreciated.

The exhibition “A Great Year” could be seen until the end of the exhibition season of the Regional Museum in Mikulov, that is until October 31, 2012.

The Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic included the MAS "dílna" among significant and extraordinary cultural events within its grant 2012 programme for the support of non-exhibition and non-publication projects.
