Mikulov in Moravia is for me a place where I’ve liked to come for many, many years... When I think of Mikulov, I always feel some perturbation and I feel to need to use strong words such as: “I love this town so very much...”
This year’s encounter with Mikulov and people in it was coming along as usual. The excitement from the first moment after arrival lasts in me until the last moment.
The opening of the Symposium in the gardens and arcades of the Mikulov chateau...
I perceive a strange, magical feeling of places I walk through... With a special inner agitation I perceive the friendly and welcoming acceptance by people I will be now working with for some weeks, with my old and new friends.
My life in Mikulov during the art “dílna” took place in a triangle between the studio up in the chateau, our modest accommodation in the “artists’ house” and my improvised graphic studio in RAP. All three points of this triangle are situated on different parts of the Chateau Hill which gave me chance every single to admire the beauty of historic roofs, towers, gates, the Goat Peak, the Mikulov Castle, the synagogue, all the little streets of Mikulov...
All this accompanied by an orange cotoneaster which, in the heat of the summer, slowly announces that autumn is nigh...
Beautiful views that change with every step. Sunrises and sunsets, castle gates, paving it the rain, dew, in the morning light or in the romantic illumination of the streetlamps...
Besides the fact that Mikulov in Moravia is gorgeous place on the globe, it is full of people,.. Friendly encounters with my old as well as new friends. Willingness and helpfulness, a friendly atmosphere and ease...
Get-togethers at the chateau and in all possible little pubs of Mikulov...
Ultimately, no words can describe this.... And so I attempted to get it somehow into my work... It was easy...
A tribute to the places I walked…
A tribute to the people who, for a shorter or longer time entered my life and left their trace in it...
A tribute to the people with whom I lived through those beautiful summer days...
A tribute to the people without whose help there would be no Symposium and ultimately, none of this work of mine...
Time passed quickly in Mikulov, quicker than I had wished...
I often remembered that well-known Faustian wish “Stay, while, you are so beautiful”.
All things must end, including the beautiful moments in Mikulov...
The final evening concert at the chateau, final preparations, final exhibition of the works...
And leaving is so difficult... One last get-together with colleagues – the artists in one of the many picturesque little garden pubs of Mikulov...
Postpone the moment of departure for some time...
Stay one more little while...
Now I am back home, tossed back in the reality and into the whirl of life and I don’t even have the time to finish this text for the catalogue...
In the most demanding moments in my life, of which there is plenty, a memory of the time in Mikulov works as a small, secrete supply of energy and comfort.
Here’s this memory and...
... a longing to return....
