Coming back to the scene of action is often tricky. To the places that strike people, and especially paintersm, with unclouded beauty as a lightning out of the blue. And I had to come back, I was looking forward to it a lot, and that’s exactly why it gave me frisson, a fear what would go wrong. I chose the invited participants very carefully, I had an ambition to approach not just great artists, but, out of respect for Mikulov great people as well. I suspect that I did a good job. I couldn’t know what horrors I would have to go through myself. Having a studio up in the chateau with an unbelievable view right into the face of the Holly Hill filled me with great joy and almost made me want to fly, but on the other hand, it filled me with total depression of my artistic insufficiency to render all this monumentality. And so I looked out of the window for most of the time thinking this was something impossible to paint unless I was a painter-actor or a painter singer or another Cézanne, and old Chinese master or, ideally, Giott himself. But I painted and felt grateful to my friends for all those moments of our joyful encounters where we together approached the horizons by watching the trajectory of the moon over the church tower. It was a beautiful summer.
