The two series of images here have a bit of a history behind them. Into mz internal dialogue with image and object I conducted in the 70’s, a new tool with the generic name Scan Processor appeared in my image - making arsenal. It was all about an iconic and symbolic interpretation of a two - dimensional flat image in a frame and a free - standing object in an unspecifield context.
Designed by teo of my colleagues, Steve Rutt and Bill Etra in New York City in early 70´s, this purely analog computer provided me the tool for the outward articulation of my inward dialogue. The tool was capable of points - voilá - The Object.
From the CRT display, I look 4 x 5 monochromatic Polaroid negatives, assembled several visual assays for the periodical Afterimage and after that the negatives laid dormant for thirty more years.
I had always thought of them as large prints, and the opportunity came when I was invited as an Artist in Residence in the print arena of the State University of New York, Alfred campus. The transformation of small negatives to large prints is comlicated. I was not sure that the magic of the electronic signal would carry through. Maybe these large prints carry some other magic. It is up to the viewer to decide.
