Dílna Mikulov - Art symposium

Libor Lípa

Libor Lípa is a visual artist, musican and organizer. Since 1994, he has been the guarantor of the Mikulov Art Symposium “dílna”. Along with his collaborators, he managed to create the most prestigious art symposium in our country, placing Mikulov on the art map of the Czech Republic. Libor Lípa was born on September 12, 1963 in Valtice and between 1979 and 1983 attended the secondary school of applied arts in Brno. He lives in Prague and Mikulov. In 1984, he was a founding member of the band U nás se svítí (Light Is On In Our House), active between 1984 and 2004 and the artistic group A6 which existed between 1984 and 1986. In 1995, he co-founded the polemic movement The Oversensitive. In his art work, which comes in cycles, he primarily focuses on painting in which he alternates between between various means of expression oscillating from very illusive figural compositions to extremely clear visual expression. In recent years, he seems to work with coloristically dim, often charcoal-, spray- or paint-based black and white scale which he accents with colours of different intensities. He also typically creates silvery, reflecting paintings with minimalistic black strokes, imprints and shadows. He also works with photography and creates objects.
