Dílna Mikulov - Art symposium

Aleš Veselý

was born on February 3, 1935 in Čáslav. He lives in Prague and works in Středokluky outside the capital. Between 1952 and 1958, he studied at the studio of Vladimír Silovský at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague where he was the head of a monumental art studio from 1990 to 2006. Aleš Veselý joined the Czech art scene in the early 1960s. His existentially and philosophically themed works with original forms immediately earned him a distinctive position within the strong informel generation of Mikuláš Medek. In later decades, he focused on robust sculpture projects which in their large and radical shapes react to the landscape and the humans’ place in it. Veselý’s works, which he pre-conceives in drawings, indicate what the foundations of his art are but also relate in their own ways to contemporary art context.
