Evžen Šimera

was born on April 16, 1980 in Prague where he lives and works. In 2006, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague where he studied at the studio of Vladimír Skrepl. In 2005, he completed a stay at the Middlesex University in London and in 2010 joined a postgraduate programme at Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. In 2009, he won the Critics’ Award for Young Painters. Evžen Šimera approaches art and painting from a conceptual position. He considers painting to be a record of a pre-conceived activity; it’s the result of a process in which coincidence – and carefully prepared coincidence at that – plays a substantial role. He creates his paintings by letting ain assumption.
