Dílna Mikulov - Art symposium

Petr Zubek

Petr Zubek (1967) has gradually worked with installation, video installation and digital himation throughout his career. In recent years, however, he rediscovered classical drawing. He was a member of the Pondělí (Monday) art group between 1989 and 1993, along with another artist participating in this year’s symposium, Milena Dopitová as well as Petr Písařík and Petr Lysáček who took part in the event in the past. Together, Theky focused on objects and installation, taking advantage of the potential of surprising combinations of everyday objects. In 1991, Petr Zubek left Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts for the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany. He completed his post-graduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, and has lived in Germany ever since. His installations began featuring videos and animations which, just like his later 3D animations, repeatedly contain references to sculpting plasticity, the body and corporeality. He made a signifiant comeback to the Czech Republic in 2010 when he became the head of the multimedia studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno’s Technical University, a position he held until 2012, as well as his three appearances at the Mikulov Art Symposium "dílna" (in 2007, as a curator in 2009, and this year).
