Dílna Mikulov - Art symposium

Jan Pištěk

JAN PIŠTĚK (1961) represents the most abstract position in Diviš’ group of painters this year, in the purest form. The author deliberately works with the visual impact of colour and the inner mystery of the very creation of the visible. The associativity of visual expression is only found on another level of his paintings and intentionally pervades from one to the other. His Mikulov series differs somewhat from the preceding one it follows up on and further develops it. Pištěk’s work has passed through several significant stages. Since the 1980s, it has intentionally developed in large series, from his initial reactions to postmodern painting, the characteristic attributiveness of archetypal symbols, weather forecast signs or construed geometrical shapes to the landscape as a fundamental starting point for his view of the world. From Japanese gardens referring to far-eastern aesthetics, virtual worlds and the infinite cosmic space. 1981–1986 Academy of Fine Arts Prague, 1990–1995 assistant in Bedřich Dlouhý’s studio of painting at Academy of Fine Arts Prague.
